Varnish

“Print varnish is either a water-based, solvent-based or UV-light-reactive clear finishing liquid that is applied by flood-coating or printed as partial embellishment onto a base substrate to achieve a matt or gloss surface for embellishment and protection”

Varnish is predominantly used to seal the label against mechanical impact and to provide a certain degree of protection against moisture of paper-based labels. Varieties are gloss or matt varnishes or even special formulations with added scents (scented coatings). High-build spot-varnishes can simulate embossing on films to provide a tactile effect on materials that don’t lend themselves for embossing. Gloss spot-varnish on matt surfaces is applied to create elegant high-lighting on luxury packaging, such as wine and spirit labels.

Can be used in conjunction with printing, foiling, lamination, thermal transfer printing
